BACKGROUND
Little Lamb is a 22 minute gothic thriller made in Australia that brings to life the brutal conditions faced by the founding mother's of the nation - the thirteen thousand convict women who were transported against their will from Britain to a remote island at the bottom of the world, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in the 1800's. Writer/Director Heidi Lee Douglas wrote the script for the Stranger with My Face Film Festival 10 by 10 Script Challenge in 2012, where participants were given ten days to write a ten page script. Little Lamb won Best Script and was then supported by Screen Australia's and Wide Angle Tasmania's Raw Nerve Initiative 2012.
Little Lamb was shot in a bitingly cold Tasmania's winter in August 2012.Thirty crew and thirty cast volunteered their time to realise the ambitious gothic thriller film. Two dozen local businesses sponsored the production by providing props, costumes, catering supplies and vehicles. We estimate the local community donated more than $200,000 into the production of Little Lamb. The ten minute cut was delivered as per requirement of the funding scheme, and premiered to cast and crew in Hobart in November 2012. In 2013 Screen Australia and Wide Angle Tasmania gave their blessings for a Little Lamb Director's Cut. A pickup shoot was completed in August 2013, and the 22 minute Director's Cut was completed in February 2014. Little Lamb was awarded an Honourable Mention for Best Australia Short at it's World Premiere at the Stranger With My Face Horror Film Festival in August 2014, had it's International Premiere at Fantastic Fest, the biggest international genre film festival in the United States, in September 2014 and is now on the international festival circuit.
Little Lamb is the first drama film from writer/director Heidi Lee Douglas whose background is in social change documentary storytelling. Douglas is now developing a feature film set in the same world.
